Afghanistan Watch
The War in Afghanistan is in its 10th year and has taken on a new importance as NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has increased its presence significantly with the change in overall policy since late 2009. In particular, the Obama Adminstration in the United States has increased the number of US military personnel dramatically with a view to bringing an end to the conflict and allow Afghanistan to provide its own security, law, order and governance.
The IDCR is located in the same town as the Colchester Garrison; home to 16 Air Assault Brigade, which has up to 8,000 personnel deployed in the Helmand province.
This page provides a range of resources related to the War in Afghanistan. The IDCR does not take a particular position on the war, but seeks to provide high quality information on the country, the nature of the conflict, and paths to conflict resolution and the institutionalisation of democracy in the long run.
