Register Interest in the Human Rights Atlas
This project creates a web-based human rights atlas that provides basic country statistics, data on legal commitments and organisational membership, and measures on a wide range of human rights that goes beyond existing data resources. The project draws on the research that has been conducted by Professor Todd Landman of the Institute for Democracy and Conflict Resolution and Dr Andrew Fagan of the Human Rights Centre. It uses existing global data and constructs an interactive web-based interface that allows users to generate customised output on countries of interest, as well as global and regional comparisons. The data come from such sources as the World Bank, the United Nations, and University projects that have released their data into the public domain. The data set is structured with the ‘country-year’ as the basic unit of analysis for a total of 194 countries for the period between 1980 and 2010. The web solution, developed by The Mackman Group, a private sector marketing and social research company, uses the underlying data file to generate maps, charts and other outputs for insightful data visualisation.
